Alan Cheetham

The death has been announced of Alan Cheetham. Alan died peacefully with his family around him at the Kings Mill hospital on January 8th 2025.

Alan was the band manager of The Riddings Band during their most successful years from 1989 to the early 2000s. During this time the band rose from the Midlands 3rd Section to the Championship Section in 2000. Alan was one of the main driving forces behind this success, working tirelessly as part of a very successful committee. During that time the band had many contest successes and delivered many excellent concerts.

Alan was also the Vice Chairman of NEMBBA for a number of years and could always be seen at local and regional contests ensuring they ran smoothly. He was also part of the team that helped run the successful Butlins Mineworkers contest where he ended up as trophy officer. He attended every Butlins contest apart from the last one and was always on stage on Saturday and Sunday nights to ensure the right bands got the right trophies.

Alan will be very much missed not only by his family but by all those whose lives he touched through his involvement in The Riddings Band and across the Midlands’ banding fraternity.

“Accept nothing nearly right or good enough”
